A student-led research project

Aegis Pulse is a student-led academic research project originally developed during the 2025–2026 New York Academy of Sciences Junior Academy Human-Centered AI Challenge. The first phase focused on developing a conceptual framework rather than a deployable medical system.

The work combines a literature review, conceptual system design, survey research, and interface prototyping to explore how human-centered digital guidance may support bystanders during the critical first minutes of a simulated trauma scenario.

Aegis Pulse is an academic research project. It is not a medical product, a deployed emergency system, or a substitute for professional medical advice or emergency services.

The Phase II mobile prototype is designed exclusively for simulated emergency scenarios and academic usability research. It is not intended for real-world medical use or emergency response.

Abstract

This student-led conceptual research framework explores how human-centered AI principles and simplified decision-flow interfaces may support bystanders during simulated trauma scenarios. The study combines a literature review, a cross-country survey (N=50), and a low-fidelity interface prototype developed in Figma to propose a theoretical framework for future research.

Usability Evaluation of the Aegis Pulse Mobile Prototype

Abstract

This phase investigates the usability of a mobile prototype derived from the conceptual framework introduced in Phase I. The study focuses on interface clarity, navigation simplicity, user confidence, perceived usability, user comprehension, decision-flow clarity, and participant feedback through structured usability evaluation in simulated emergency scenarios. The resulting findings will form the basis of the project's second research publication.
